Not everything that counts can be
counted;
and
not everything that can be counted counts.
What is the most valuable possession of a man?
A
greedy person might say that the most valuable possession a man can have is
money and all the vices in the world. Indeed money can have all the material
things that give pleasure, such as expensive jewels, fast cars, latest gadgets
and all the luxuries in the world that money can afford. These countable things
could truly boost man’s ego. On a second thought, these countable things may
not be countable at all if a man is alone and has no family to go home with.
What is the value of these things if a man is sick and dying? Could a man still
appreciate these things if he is lying six feet under the ground? No. For the
value of these material things are temporary and will fade in time. Material
things lose their value when man does not find them useful anymore. Thus, not
everything can be counted counts.
However,
a wise man would probably prefer to value the simple things that money cannot
afford. Happy memories from the past, love, happiness and good health are just
some of the simple great things. The value of these things cannot be
distinguished and cannot be counted because they are priceless. Furthermore, these
are the most precious gift a man possesses. Life is a gift from God that should
be treasured above any material things. In addition, money is useless without
life.
A
man who lives his existence for money is pathetic. Whatever pleasure money
brings will never give contentment and satisfaction to a man’s soul. On the
other hand, a man who appreciates life above all the material things in the
world is wise and noble. For he have seen the most valuable gift that God gave
him. Yes, money is pleasure but then again, life is happiness.
